This unit further develops the oral and written communication skills required of dietitians. In this unit, students will apply the nutrition care process and document nutrition care for clients with diet-related disease. Students will expand their knowledge of counselling theory as applied to dietetic practice and apply client-centred counselling skills in the development of nutrition care plans for clients. Students will also develop skills in planning, implementation and evaluation of small group education for clients with diet-related disease.

Unit Learning Outcomes

  • 1 prioritise client needs through the collection and analysis of health, medical, cultural, social, psychological, economic, personal, environmental and dietary intake data
  • 2 formulate individualised, realistic, nutrition care plans using client-centred counselling skills
  • 3 develop, implement and evaluate small group education centred on behaviour change theory
  • 4 apply requirements of a small business/counselling service
